There's Just Something About You

(Reading Time: 2.5 minutes)

Have you ever felt unqualified to do something God has put in your heart?

When God called Moses to deliver the Israelites out of the hands of the Egyptians who had enslaved them for 400 years, Moses responded with every ounce of fear, doubt, and insecurity in his body. He told God over and over how no one would ever believe him and how he was slow of speech and tongue. Even though God explained that He would empower him every step of the way, Moses went as far as to suggest that God go find someone else for the job.

In Exodus 4:13, Moses says: “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.”

I know what it feels like to be insecure about a calling or a dream God has put in your heart. I can even understand why Moses would think other people were more qualified. The advisors to Pharaoh were some of the most impressive communicators of their time.

It’s not Moses who baffles me. It's God’s response that gives me pause.

Exodus 4:14 reads: “Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and He said, “Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold, he is going to meet you…”

Did you catch that? God knew Aaron was a good speaker, but He called Moses first. Why would He not cut to the chase, skip Moses, and recruit the most gifted individual for the job?

It’s because God’s talent agency has different requirements.

1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Like with David, I believe Moses’ heart grabbed God’s attention. Perhaps it was his prayerfulness. God needed someone who would willingly communicate with Him to receive the plans He had for His people. Perhaps it was his humility. God required someone who wouldn’t take credit, but rather help the Israelites recognize the power of the Lord their God.

God has plenty of kids. He knows each of our abilities. If God put the dream inside of you, it’s for a reason.

YOU have the right heart for the job. Trust that He has not made a mistake. There is just something about you that He loves and that He trusts. Because of your heart, He will use you to fulfill His purposes.
